What is the scheme?

The ACT Government’s Sustainable Household Scheme has offered zero-interest loans to eligible households for energy upgrades. Repayments are spread over several years, which can make a bigger upgrade affordable without paying interest.

What can it cover?

Eligible products have included:

  • Rooftop solar.
  • Home batteries.
  • Heat-pump hot water.
  • Reverse-cycle heating and cooling (split, multi-head and ducted).
  • EV chargers and other electrification upgrades.

Eligibility criteria, loan limits and participating providers are set by the ACT Government — check the current rules before you sign.

Combining with other incentives

The loan finances the upgrade; it isn’t a rebate. Federal incentives such as STCs for solar and heat pumps, and the Cheaper Home Batteries discount, may still reduce the price. Ask your installer to show each incentive separately.

Tips

  • Check your installer is a participating provider.
  • Compare the scheme price with quotes outside the scheme.
  • Plan the order of upgrades — for example solar before electrifying heating.
  • Understand repayment terms and what happens if you sell your home.
